John L. Whitehead is a shareholder in the firm Wiener, Weiss & Madison, A Professional Corporation. Prior to joining the firm, John served nearly 30 years as general counsel for a Louisiana community bank, with branches in both Louisiana and Texas. John was responsible for overseeing the bank’s exposure to legal risks across all business lines, including managing the bank’s compliance and BSA departments. His duties included managing litigation and bankruptcy matters, providing guidance on products and services, and leading advocacy efforts related to proposed laws, rules, and regulations that impact the banking industry. John acted as legal counsel for real estate acquisitions, bank branch applications, mergers and acquisitions, and change in control applications. He also served as counsel for both the bank and its holding company in a broad range of litigation matters. John is a frequent speaker on banking, foreclosure, and bankruptcy topics.
